We would like to have a white roof on our building. My husband and I cannot do this ourselves. Do you have anyone you can recommend to us? We live in Lower Manhattan.

You are right guys it is no ordinary white paints it is somewhat mixed with advance particles or ceramic materials to absorb and withstand the uv rays and its even impact resistant and can be applied on virtually any surface. The Best Company I know who is the PIONEER in this type of heat/impact resistant and heat/sound absorptive product is ICC (Insulating Coatings Corporation) and they call it ASTEC Coatings. I know this company over ten (10) years ago from my researched of US products to be imported to Saudi Arabia and be sold locally but unfortunately my business tie up that time had become deteriorated. Excellent presentation, but with a few big questions unanswered? Can you put this stuff on over slate shingles? Over rubber roofs? Over tar and roofing paper roofs?… and how does Supertherm differ in effect from that silver stuff we used to use on Baltimore rowhouse roofs? (which had asbestos in it, as I recall. So maybe it’s a no-go no matter what. Oh well.) You may not know, but I sure hope you do. Not all roofs are asphalt. And I would also like to know what the Supertherm IS, like the other folks. Thanks.

When they say it isn’t paint what they are refering to is the consistency difference between your standard paint and this coating. Standard paint is mostly water and is intended more for colour. The coating has a higher percentage solids count thus is considerably thicker.

This is a cool video. I’ve been doing a little research on what the president is doing to reduce climate change and I did read that the Obama administration was thinking of “painting the White House roof white”. It’s great to learn a little more about what that means.

That’s a good question, Adam. I would think it would still provide some type of benefit because I thought that the color white reflects light. So wouldn’t a plain white roof still reflect some light and heat?
