However I want remark that the IARC, which is related to the WHO, has classified extremly low frequency magnetic fields as possible cancerogen for humans, because magnetic field could cause childhood leukaemia if magnetic fields over 400 nano Tesla occur (IARC Monographs on the Evaluation of Carcinogenic Risks to Humans Vol. 80 (2002): Non-Ionizing Radiation, Part 1: Static and Extremely Low-Frequency (ELF) Electric and Magnetic Fields). Very new the IARC also classified Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (e.g. when using cell phones). More information about EMF at my Blog . Beside this topic in old buildings we can find PAHs(polycyclic aromatic Hydrocarbons) and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB), both Groups of chemicals can be very hazardous to the inhabitants. BIAP

please l have a concern that needs to addressed.It is the issue of making sleeping foam or matress around a living home.What is the hazard associted with the chemicals used in making the foam.

Incredibly written article. I am amazed and my head is spinning with the information given here. Yes most of this has been ongoing for years. And most I had forgotten about. Unfortunately, we have lived in this home for 21 years, and it was built in 1978. We just cannot afford to fix all that needs to be done to upgrade, upkeep it since we retired. Taxes keep going up, and our Retirement does not. We are hoping we can replace the woodburning stove in the Family Room with a cleaner burning Pellet Stove this year. I hope I hope.
