While CFLs are not dimmable, the good news is that most LED light fixtures and LED bulbs are. One reader suggested the super-cutting edge OLED technology. but LEDs are a more accessible and less expensive way to start saving serious amounts of electricity and money! LEDs are a low voltage light technology, and it's possible to either use a low-voltage dimmer with an LED fixture, or to use a small low-voltage transformer that works with your existing dimmer.

I don't think that installing programmable lights is worth it, I would just really recommend that people start raising their children right and making sure they turn off the lights. After all it's not just wasted energy but wasted money.

There is this new type of lighting system that is on the market. It's suppose to be better than LEDs and CFLs... it's call OLEDs! I would really recommend that SCGH put an article out on that! People need to know

An incandescent dimmed to 50% of its light output may draw 75% of full power.

WOW IF YOU ADD THIS UP THEN HONESTLY THE ENERGY BEING CONSUMED IS A LOT AND THE DECREASED CHANGE BY DIMMING COULD REALLY MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE!

If you really consider this on a mass scale, the lights are not used that much in the home. The main thing that uses the most fuel and energy in your home is temperature regulations. Leaving the between leaving the lights and having the ac run full blast... I would pick to make sure i turned off the ac.

Molly, I agree. It is sooo aggrevating to me when people leave a room and do not turn off the lights. If you live like this, than you should install some programmable lights

I like to turn off the lights whenever possible. But sometimes if I'm gone at night I have to leave the lights on for my dogs. I feel a tiny bit guilty because I'm not there, but I guess it's still for a good reason.

I can't believe people don't turn off their lights when they're not in the room. People just don't think about the consequences of their actions. The fact that there are timers in case people forget to turn off the lights is weird. Just turn off the lights in the first place!!
