I have just moved into an 18th and 19th century house.

we have an old fashioned humidifying system.
Simmering water in an old pan.

it is a gas stove and i put the pan on a cast iron grill which also heats the room. can raise temp 10 degrees in thirtyminutes.

How energy efficient is this?

And what about the metal containers fitted over the back of radiators which are filled with water? I have put a container of water on top of the hall radiator whose heat heads straight up the stairway. Fan at the top of the house to come.

Humidifiers breed germs boil a pot of water on the stove and steam the air for about 15 min when you wake up and when you come home( or put bowls of water on your heat registers). Plus they never break unlike made in chine crap to be found in the box stores.
