I am routinely amazed by how much we think that we know about history is wrong.
Take the Middle Ages, for instance. We tend to think of them as a dark, brutal, and backwards times, dominated by kings and superstition, with witch burnings each Tuesday. The reality is that it was in many ways equal to and in others an improvement on the Greco-Roman world that preceded it. Its inhabitants developed three-field crop rotation. They created artillery. Double-entry accounting.

I have recently decided to be less apologetic, to see how it goes. I may not reply to your responses.

One of my most glaring flaws is that I’m very self-focused; I relate everything back to myself. I ask for your patience, I’m working on it.
