Hey, I am really glad that the video and our site was informative. What is your decision? Are you going to try to install one on your own? If you do, we'd love to get your testomonial on how it goes. Can you let me know? I love DIY solar solutions. Another great option to harness the sun is to make your own home solar cooker. Check out the article on "Ovens and Cooktops", specifically the "Benefits section --> ...to the Earth". See http://www.sierraclubgreenhome.com/go-green/appliances/ovens-and-cooktops/. This is yet another inexpensive way to reduce your CO2 footprint! Best, Jennifer
Jennifer, Thank you so much your info was right on. I previously visited the solar-center and got estimated costs. Which lead me to my inquiry on the DO-IT MYSELF avenue. Your response and links was extremely helpful.
Hi there, I think your first stop should be our solar center. Input the 700-800 Kwh into the calculator along with your zip code. http://www.sierraclubgreenhome.com/solar-center/ Once those two bits of information process, you select your utility company and you will then have an idea of what a solar installation will cost. My best recommendation is to have a couple of contractors (which you can also source from the link I have provided) come look at your property and give you a quote. This will give you a benchmark to compare to. Now on building your own installation, it is possible. My experience is very handy types, plus designers & architects can manage putting together a system if it is small. I would like to direct you to a video on our site where I meet with William Scott Perry who talks about steps in building his solar energy system. If you have interest in learning more to actually do it. I will provide you with more information. http://www.sierraclubgreenhome.com/go-green/renewable-energy/solar-electricity/ Thanks, Jennifer
I am not sure if this is a appropriate question for this group. I am a home owner looking into solar and or wind alt. energy. My avg mthly kwh is 700-800. I've googled for info and see lots of hype on build your own solar panel or wind turbine. Are these viable option or are they scams.
