Sierra Club Green Home is the definitive site for consumers interested in learning how to make their homes more sustainable and energy efficient. It’s an ideal place for advertising products and services that can help consumers achieve those goals. If any of your company’s products or services can help our users, please read on.
Acceptable advertisements
It’s important that advertisements on SCGH support only products or services that have a minimal impact on the environment. For that reason, we request that all advertisements be for a specific product or service that either:
- Helps people reduce their energy usage;
- Is made from renewable (or recycled) resources;
- Is an alternative to a product that typically contains dangerous toxins or chemicals.
We will review your advertisement with this in mind before we display it on SCGH, so please ensure that it meets at least one of these criteria. Sorry, we cannot accept general brand advertising; your ad must focus on a specific product or service.
Please note also that at this time, all advertisements run nationally. We do not run local campaigns.
How it works
Most pages on our site have dedicated advertising space in the right column. This is highly visible space that users will naturally see as they navigate the page allowing your product or service to become associated with Sierra Club Green Home.
If you elect to advertise with us, please follow the submission directions below. Once you submit your ad, we will make a determination based on content, your budget and site traffic as to where on SCGH your ad should appear. Of course, if you have preferences, or would like to customize your campaign in anyway, please include that in your submission. We are happy to work with any advertiser to deliver the campaign they would like to have.
Advertisement sizes and acceptable file types
Our site allows for banner advertisements which are 160 pixels wide x 600 pixels long. We will consider adding advertisements which are 300 pixels wide x 250 pixels long in our educational articles if an advertiser so chooses.
All advertisements must be submitted in one of the following formats: .PNG (with transparent background), .JPEG (with white background), or .GIF (with white background)

Therefore, a significant part of the value in advertising on our site is the brand recognition you receive. Our advertising costs are priced based upon your company’s campaign goals. We have a dedicated advertising staff that can identify prime placement options within our site that will give your company optimum results. Getting Started
All we need from you to get your advertising campaign started is an e-mail sent to ads@scgh.com containing the following:
- Your name
- Your company name
- Your e-mail and phone number
- A billing address or a credit card number
- The files representing the ad or ads you would like displayed on the site
- A brief explanation of why this product or service helps further the mission of Sierra Club Green Home
- Your initial budget for advertising on our site. Note that the minimum advertising budget is $1,500 for small businesses or non-profits, $5,000 for medium-sized businesses and $10,000 for large businesses.
- The text “I agree to the terms and conditions for advertising on www.sierraclubgreenhome.com as outlined at www.sierraclubgreenhome.com/advertising-terms-and-conditions“
Once we have received your e-mail, we will review your advertisement, create your campaign and notify you when you ad is loaded onto our site. You will also receive monthly updates showing the success of your campaign and the oustanding balance associated with your advertisements.
